Family History
Here you will find various resources for tracing your family history on Greenhow Hill and surrounding areas; Hardcastle, Kell Houses, Moorhouses, & Holebottom.
Family Trees
The family trees that were formally listed on this site have now been removed as they had become totally out of date. In 2005 it was realised that many of the families were well interlinked and some method of easily displaying this was sought, and a tree was generated on Tribal Pages. This tree now runs to over 9,000 names.
As a result of this the Greenhow Family Tree Project was born. This is a culmination of all the trees that were formally on here, ones that people have sent me, information gathered from the internet and personal research done by myself and others. While this database is password protected, access is freely given to anyone with a genuine interest in Greenhow Hill and its past population. For access please contact me via this link and state the reason for your interest.
Another site relating to Greenhow Hill families is also on Tribal Pages, this time without a password as all the data is in the public domain. This site deals with the Landed Gentry, that is the major landowners, the White & Yorke families, who were associated with Greenhow Hill.

Very pleased to find this site and grateful for finding so many children of Henry Habbershaw, especially Mary, 1723. Frustrated by not finding Henry’s marriage. Many thanks, Derek Todd. ps Henry is my wife’s 4x great grandfather. We would be interested in their family tree.
All the Habbershaw infoormation that I have can be found at https://greenhow-hill.org.uk/content/trees/habbershaw.pdf
Looking for relatives of the Coates family of Greenhow Hill.
I fell accross this site last night, while randomly Googling. Little did I expect that it would give me a direct link to my roots in the 1740s. I am so grateful for all the work you’ve done, it’s amazing. I’m not doing “proper” research at the moment but hopefully will at some point in the future. In the meantime I will share some of this with my *80+ Mum and know she’ll be very excited. Thank you again.
